Question Advertising on Craigslist
I am getting ready to post an ad in the Small Biz section of Craigslist. I am unsure if I should post to my local area or if I should post to some of the larger metropolitan areas of the US. For those of you who have had success, which route did you take?

Either can work, just make sure that you post no more often than once every 48 hours and your previous post must be deleted before you post again. You shouldn't have more than one ad active at any one time.

Amanda has a good point, since you're virtual you can pretty much target wherever you think the most receptive client base will be but be careful about overposting - Craigslist has gotten picky about repeat posts, etc. Good luck!

I am going to collect some data on this. I am going to start in my local area and keep my ad up for 3-4 business days and see what kind of response I get. After my area I will move my ad to other areas and see what comes of it. Hopefully I will get some useful information from doing this.

Kellie,

Just make sure to screen anyone who replies. While I think it can be a good place to advertise certain things, I've had some bad experiences. I don't think everyone there is like that, I just happened to meet two people who didn't want to pay what they owed me. Like with anything free on the internet, be careful. You may not want to list your phone number either. Maybe just an email address, or even an alternate email address if possible. I also have gotten unwanted emails and spam after posting there. I know they say that's not supposed to happen, but it was the only place I posted with that particular email address so I was able to track it to Craigslist.

I hope it works out well for you! Let us know how it goes.

I agree Craigslist is free and you get what you pay for so to speak. I have had so many scammers on that website that it is ridiculous! I am now gearing up to pay local magazines to advertise my VA business. Good luck to everyone!
