I agree about researching any possible client prospects that you may receive. Craigslist is a good site once you wade through all of the mess.

I've seen VAs posting in the 'Resume' section of Craigslist. I am planning on trying it out, maybe I'll post in 'Small Biz Ads' and 'Resumes' to see what happens.

For those of you who do use Craigslist to advertise, do you generally advertise in your local area or multiple cities? I was thinking about posting in the largest cities in my state.

Also, do you reply to job opportunities or just submit a posting of your own VA business services?

The main thing about Craigslist is - if they send you an email asking you to click a link - best not to click the link at all. If it's a legit company just type their name into google and you should find their website that way!

I agree with Kathy. You have to be careful when using Craigslist for business or personal uses. Try to figure out who's sending you info and if they are legit. A lot of times you can tell from subject lines alone, but definitely be wary of opening any attachments or clicking on links in an email if you don't know who it's from (probably best to just delete).

I have never used it myself, especially since I have heard all the bad things the people on here have to say about it, but I did connect with a VA in my area that got her 2 clients from answering ads placed there. She says they keep her busy enough that she doesn't need any other clients. It may be worth checking out, but I would definitely choose carefully which ones to contact.

I have posted ads on Craig's List about 2-3 times. The only responses I have received are from scammers

Thanks!

I just got a client from my ad on CL under the small biz section. I was posting a couple of months ago and then I stopped. I also post my resume for finding a job and that is where I get all of the spam mail and scams. However, I have received to interviews from it as well.

One thing that you have to remember is that you have to repost every other day to make sure that you stay on the first page.

You can only post in one city in your state, they can remove you if you "over post" I am in Minnesota and I place my ad and resume in Minneapolis because even people in St. Cloud or Duluth will look at Minneapolis.

As for replying to job opportunites, I was doing that until a couple of days ago when I applied to three of them and the response that I received where scam emails. Now I don't apply to any ads, I just post them.

I always google the email address; I have found a lot of the scams this way. I also google the links to find out what they are and then I actually go to the site that they recommend manually, not using their link.
