Question Working out the Legalities for Florida
Hello Everyone,
This will be my first virtual business, and I'm so excited , and I have so many thoughts and ideas running through my mind. I just recently completed my rates, contracts, and services offered list, and I bought my domain from godaddy.com and I'm currently working on my license, since I want to start off as a sole prop. I'm still working out the legalities if I will need an actual business license or if I can use a DBA, I live in the state of Florida, and everything seems to be sending me in circles.

I already have a design for my website, and since I had my own website before, I know my way around it some what..I'm just hoping to get this business license dilemma situated, and I do feel a big weight can be lifted off my shoulders once it does. does anyone have any advice for Florida Licenses. I plan to offer legal and administrative support.

In the State of Florida you have to advertise your business name before you can obtain the business license, this became effective July 1, 2009 "NEW LAW! Effective July 1, 2009, the intention to register a fictitious name must be advertised at least once in a newspaper in the county in which the principal place of business will be located. Contact your newspaper for advertising information."

You can also search to see if your business name is already taken here.

This is a link to the Starting a Business in Florida.

Good luck~
Andrea

Andrea,

Thanks so much for this information. I need to get my license as well. So I will have to advertise in a paper located in my county before I can get licensed. Well I better get to it. Thanks again!

Oh wow Andrea,
Your post is very helpful, I wasn't sure if it would be easier to use one of those Business License companies, but this information sheds some light, thanks for pointing me in the right direction

Research into state requirements is usually only a click away. If you know the official state site (official state portal), you can go from there to obtain most business information and documents needed to operate a business. If in doubt, you can call the state and ask questions.

Locate the 'Business' link and almost everything is at your fingertips.

Most state sites contain links for the Department of Revenue as well; for tax information, forms and requirements.
