Default VA's in Australia
Hi There!

I'm new to this site and am looking to enter the VA industry... I've read through some of the threads here and find the content and quality of advice and information very resourceful and useful.

I was wondering if there were any Australian VA's on this site who could advise me of the legalities of starting up etc. Would it be better to start and see how I go first? Or register my business from the get go? Just wondering what the legal process is :-)

Other advice on this industry would be fantastic!

Thanks

Hi and welcome to the forums!

We have quite a few VAs right here who are from Australia (although I'm not one of them!), I'm sure you'll receive plenty of responses specific to your country

As to the rest of it - get ready to do lots of reading...as you can see there is a ton of info here. And feel free to ask your own questions and post comments along the way.

It really depends on what state you are based in. I'd also check with your accountant to determine what structure you should start your business in. I'm currently a sole trader but will register as a company when I move up a tax bracket.

Hi, and welcome! I'm in Melbourne and operate as a sole trader. As Kylie said, it's best you check with your Accountant as they are usually well versed with your financial situation and would know what you need to do. For example - GST, do you register for it or don't you? An Australian Business Number (ABN) is necessary. Leasing or purchasing equipment outright? Depends on your financial situation. Registering with your local council? Depends on your state.

Have fun exploring here!
