If you register your business name through the United States Trademark Office, it costs $275 for the standard registration, or up to $375 . The cost includes the attorney fee. Once you have registered your business name, it then goes to an attorney to determine that it is not registered with someone else, etc.

If you file for a registered trademark, it is good for 10 years.

This is good information to know because I have been afraid to start business until after I get the trademark. I already did the name search with USPTO and with the state where I live and the name is not in use. I own the domain name already, so is it safe to proceed in the following order:

1) Register my business as an LLC with the state 2) Get copyrights for my website content 3) Register the trademark after I build some revenue.

Good info. I haven't even thought about trademarking. I have filed for a fictitious business statement and obtained my domain. Since money is an issue for me too, this step will need to wait.

I want to trademark my name but White Rose is right. The filing fee is $325. That's pretty much what I spent for my LLC process.

I did it!!!! I filed for my trademark/servicemark and applied for my LLC. Yippppeeeee!!!! I'm almost there, just praying the USPTO will accept my trademark/servicemark name. I can't wait to get the final confirmation that my mark has been accepted. Please keep me in your prayers.
