Default Insurance
I'm sure this question has been asked before, but what type of insurance is needed for a Virtual Assistant?
I am also broadening my business to be a personal assistant in my state, is this smart or not?

If you search the forums for liability insurance I think you will find a wide range of answers. I had this same question. If you are working virtually there is real no risk of having visitors get hurt, but an example others gave me was if you met at a clients home and accidentally broke something of theirs the insurance would cover you. Also you never know what someone could try to sue you for working virtually , it's always good to try to get some sort of liability insurance.

I believe "liability insurance" is a good word to search for in the forum search box in upper right hand side.

Hope this helps!

Brandy

I currently carry E&O (errors and omissions) insurance for my business. I do not carry any other since I do not have clients come to my home office. I do have an artist client that I ship for and after checking with my carrier and hers, her insurance covers damage, fire and theft.

Since you are looking to be a PA I would check with your insurance carry for what they offer to small business owners.

Thanks that is the type of insurance I mean to say E&O, hey since we are on topic is there links to sites you can get quotes from or should you personally call around local area?

Thanks,
Brandy

Brandy,

I went through my insurance agent who I have used forever. It is a major company so I got a great rate and now my agent stays on top of my business needs too. However, you may want to shop around to get some quotes.

To what Lee said, I would like to add that E&O isn't cost prohibitive either. A policy can be purchased for around $25/yr.

As a Notary, my E&O is with a bonding company (mutual) based in Des Moines, IA even though I'm in Nevada. The policy clearly states: Notary Public Errors and Omissions Policy.
