Hi All!! Thank you for reading this. I cannot find any solid information regarding how many clients a person/business needs to be considered a contractor. All of the information I can find suggests that I can have more than one client, but I can't find any information telling me whether or not I HAVE to have more than one client. When someone is just starting up, it obviously takes time, but I have had my sole proprietorship since 2006 and I haven't been using it the entire time. I currently have a client and am looking for others, but I want to know if anyone knows of any legal issues this may cause. Frustrating!! Thank you!

You can have as many clients as you can handle. You can have one client or you can have ten. There are no legal issues being a contractor, however, there could be legal issues if you haven't set up your company properly and/or if you operate without a contract.

Begin by setting up your company properly; use a contract and obtain a deposit from your clients.

You can still be considered a contractor with one client however I am not sure if the US rules apply in Canada. I would check with your local government to see what their criteria is on being a contract worker.
