Default Copyright issues with client supplied content?
I have a client who is to supply their website content for the site that I am doing for them. My client emailed me scanned copies of some pages from an association book that she wants on her site. The content is about the field she is and how they help people and what they do and such.

My question is, do you think that there is any copyright being abused here? It wont be all over her website, just the how we help you(She is a registered Massage therapist)

I hope that this makes sense, I am so tired!

Thanks for any input.

It depends on whether she has permission from the author. Also will she be giving credit? It does not matter how much it is on the site but the fact that it is there.

I would advise her that this is copy-written material and without proper approval or recognition she may be asked to remove it due to violation.

I have a question--what if the client tells you to put it up there anyway? Do you just say, I would love to but can't until we get the copyright issues cleared up?

I thought they same thing. I was going to put that it came from the book and give full credit.

I would tell the client to save them time and grief I would get the correct permissions or give credit to the author. Explain that when (notice I did not say IF) the author discovers the unauthorized use, they will need to remove or rework it and that it will cost them more money to make the changes so they might as well address the issue form the start.

Thanks, I did tell her and she is going to get the permission from the person so that she can put it on her site.
