Default Business structure - what do I do??
I am well aware of the different business structures and the pros and con of each but is it really necessary to become an LLC? My rational is, while I would still be exposed to liability as a Sole P, the liability is not like that of someone who is making thousands of dollars on a single job. I figure that my liability per job is going to be below 1000 and I plan of carrying ENO as well as liability insurances which theoretically should cover the few personal assets I have and any and all disputes should remain in small claims court due to the low dollar amount. I would love to hear about what others think and if the overwhelming majority believe I should form an LLC is it ok for me to take on a few small time clients before getting it up and running? Never having run my own business I want to make sure I am doing everything correctly. As always, thanks for your help!

I think sole proprietor is fine, especially for starters.

I always encourage VAs to speak to their accountants or perhaps their solicitors for this one and anything at all related to taxation or business structure. There is always so much to be considered and it is important to have an expert in this field advise you in the correct things to do. I know that means an expense but it is a taxable expense and could save you a lot of money down the track if you find that things weren't done as they should have been.

My husband and I run 3 separate businesses as sole proprietors and have never had any issues. To get started, it's what I'd recommend.
