Okay ladies and gent. I have read the posts and quite frankly and have myself confused. So I need to get a business license with the city that I live in as well as decide whether to go LLC, sole proprietor or can I just do a DBA? I know this sounds very silly, but I just need some advice.
If you are a sole proprietor normally you can do a DBA . Example Susie Smith dba Virtual Assistant. You may want to look into registering as an LLC. The LLC limits the liablity you personally have if something should go wrong. (it attempts to separate your personal assets from your business assets.) You may want to talk to an attorney or an accoutant before making a decision. or at least do a little googling and find out what will work best for you. Good Luck.
