Tess;

Thank you for this post -- I have thought about my business rules but was stuck on the late payment items -- everyone's input sure makes deciding on my easier as I understand how our industry is handling it.

I saw this thread pop back up and thought 'uh oh!' 'I'd better see if any of my own perspectives have changed'

I will say that my late payment policy has evolved a bit, AND I am more proactive about learning the skills and programs my clients need their VA to be experienced in [as opposed to waiting to see what clients will ask for - I seek out new learning experiences]

Otherwise, it all still holds true

This is wonderful advice for all of us but especially for those of us who are very new to the business. My payment policies are on my website but I see that I have to consider additional situations that probably will arise sooner or later. I tend to be a people pleaser and I need to think more like a business person. I'm not here to make friends but to do business.

Thanks so much for this advice. I'm currently writing the copy for my website and many of those things you mentioned were things I hadn't considered - they'll definitely be made clear now!

Thanks heaps. :-)

I think these set of rules are extremely helpful especially since I'm just starting out in this business. I also think it's a great idea to send out invoice reminders in a timely manner. This also shows your client that knows that paying for the services is just as important a getting the job done!

Definitely so true! Clients must take into consideration that we also are doing business just like them. And so to ensure success in both parties, we must abide by terms set beforehand.

Tess... Do you have this in PDF anywhere? As I tend to be a people pleaser myself it's something I'd love to print out and put in my resource binder! This is some really great advice. Would also make a great article for TVE!

Tess - I have saved this little lesson because you have absolutely opened my eyes to a few things that I wasn't thinking of as I approach my "open" date.

Tess - This information was very helpful. I too wish I had some of these boundaries in place with some of my first clients, one being my hours of service. I have learned to be more firm with the times I am available. Thank you, you gave me great information to consider
