Frankly, such treatment from a fellow VA is not merely unethical, it is totally unconscionable . That said, what goes around comes around and business people who are devoid of ethics quickly fall by the wayside.

Just my two pennyworth.

I wanted to chime in here to let everyone know that Kathy is not the only one having issues with this VA.

After I read her first post, I had a feeling it was the same VA we had been dealing with and contacted her. We are working together (behind the scenes) to try and get our invoices paid.

The hardest part is, this VA is in the UK so calling isn't easy. I've DM'd her on Twitter, emailed several times & resent invoices with late fees included.
The only response either of us gets (when we actually get one) is, "I'm sorry again" with no real substance of what is being done to end this fiasco.

I am appalled at the way this has been handled from the beginning and I will never recommend this VA or the companies they sub work from. I wish I could post their info here to warn others but, I feel that would be unethical.

I will, however, recommend to all VA's ,at the very least, get YOUR contract signed, not just theirs.

I refuse to let this rest till all money due is received. I will update again when I am paid.

Let us know how things turn out! I have found that using a "help me" approach seems to work well. You could call her and say, "Hi XYZ VA, I was wondering if you can help me for a minute? I have sent you emails in the past and they have gone unasnwered. I am hoping that they didn't end up in SPAM, but I wanted to bring this your attention. I was emailing that there is a past due balance...".

I have a client that I have to send reminders to as well and it gets annoying, but hopefully this person will do the right thing and pay up for the work performed.

UPDATE: As of today the VA in question has paid both myself and Kathy.

I am happy to finally have this done and over with. I was told by a close friend of mine that I should just drop it because the amount wasn't huge.

I almost did but, the more I thought about it the more I felt the need to pursue until the end so this VA understood the meaning of ethics and keeping your word.
I hope this has been a learning experience for her and that she is very careful how she handles things in the future.

Hi Kathy:

I always find that picking up the phone and trying to resolve things live is so much better than email. We as VAs are certainly virtual, certainly in times like the one you've described, but I have found from experience that a voice on the phone is so much better received than an electronic message.

On the phone, you're better able to convey your personality and your direct needs over the phone without coming across in a negative way.

I'm curious to see how this resolves. Please keep us posted and best wishes!

Thanks Andrea, and to everyone who responded to my thread (Especially Christina!). It has been a frustrating couple of months, but it is finally over. I really value the support that I received from everyone here on VAF.
Thanks again!
