Default Re: What did you do this week to prospect for your ideal clients?
My FT job is not aware of my VA sideline - and most Powers That Be in a company would take a very dim view of it. I would be concerned that using vehicle signage when out and about on company business would get back to them and they would let you go for trying to promote your own thing in company time. I keep signage on my van (each side and rear) all the time but when I have to go into the office I pull off a block away and remove it. When I leave I pull off a block away and put it back on.

I have a very well paid position + benefits with the company, have trained them (by being online in the company mail and answering quickly 24/7) into my working from home as it suits me/the job. I'm getting older and I plan to keep what I have and build the VA along with it. Perhaps some people have working spouses, but I am single and in my house there is only me to provide for me, 3 cats, a huge dog, a canary and 120g of tropical fish. Everyone's situation is different.

Hi There!

I understand that most FT positions are not aware of the business on the side. At first, I did not want to say anything to my boss and one day I had mentioned it to him and he supported it fully. I have my 4 year old daughter and at times being a single mother and working FT can be a bit tedious - especially when your child is sick.

My boss even stated that once my contract is over that he'd get rid of the building space, save on rent for an office space, and hire me afterwards. I'm very thankful he supports me and allows me to promote while passing out flyers/business cards for his business.

However, I'm not passing out business cards/flyers for my own - just the decal promotes on it's own. But you're right, every situation is different, as many others VAs state - it will be such a relief when that two week notice gets put in to your current employer

My BNI group had a Visitor's Day this week. BNI is a great resource for me as a VA, as nearly every person in the room can use my services!

I started my business in February, and currently have 3 clients. Two of them came from BNI. It's really working for me!

Jean you are so very lucky, most employers would have a fit if they thought you did something else, let alone have some compassion for a single mother with a small child - most companies are "well, that's your problem". they want every ounce of your being and when they've bled that out they boot you out the door. Never happened to me - 30 years in law firms, now in a the corporate world and I see how mercenary they are.

Just for a giggle, I recently met with a baby lawyer (maybe 35) who works out of mummy & daddy's house. He wanted everything I can do - incorporate companies, do the government filings, all the opening by-laws and resolutions - for $50 a pop ... would you like fries with that? I sent him an email noting that my company was concentrating on executive assistance, wish you all the best, blah, blah blah. It's a crazy world sometimes.

Whatever we do, whatever path we take, it has to feel right and if it feels right it probably is.

Lynne

That is terrific Theresa!

Tess I used to love going back through that thread and read up on it to get some great ideas.

For me all I did this week was continue to work on the relationship building via Twitter and actually signed on a huge new client! She is someone that I first came in contact with back in November.
