Default Response Question
I'm sorry ladies but this is a total newbie question. I had my first contact request through my website. They did not specify whether they wanted to be contacted by e-mail or telephone. Considering my phone number is published on my website, should I assume their preference is to be contacted via e-mail?
Additional information: the company is a law firm. I do not offer any law related services other then general administration.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Hi Dawn,
This is a great question - I can see how you'd be uncertain as to how to proceed.
I would assume that if the client provided both phone and email in their inquiry to you then you can get in touch with them in whatever way works best for you.

Personally, I prefer to communicate via email for the most part but do call new clients in order to help develop the relationship.
With that said - if this was my own circumstance to deal with I'd probably respond with a detailed email and close with an offer to phone them for further consultation.
Hope that helps! Surely others will post back with their own suggestions

Thank you Tess. After posting this thread, that is what my gut told me. This is my first lead and I'm a little nervous. The funny thing is someone just posted a thread a few days ago about leads through their website. It sounded collectively as though they occur but not all of the time. And then BAM, my first possible lead is through my website. On that note, I would just like to thank everyone for putting that energy out there for me!

If they contact you via the form or email, I'd reply in the same way - by email. If they ring then of course you're speaking to them already!

I agree with previous posters. I would go the email route that way you will have a record of your correspondence.

I also would reply by email. I would follow-up with by phone if you do not receive a response to your email. Good luck, and keep us updated!

I agree with everyone else...respond via e-mail and then ask the question " How do you prefer to be contacted in the future?"

Quick question? On your web contact form, do you include a field where they can tell you how they'd prefer to be contacted?

Thank you all for your input. I sent an e-mail response after Tess posted. No response yet. Perhaps I will call her tomorrow if she doesn't respond.

On my website contact form there is a box for questions, comments, feedback. I don't really care for the way it is worded and plan to change it on the new site I am building. But yes, on the page itself I do include a request to be provided with the type of correspondence they prefer.
