Default Be proactive!
Okay, so I talked to a potential client a few weeks ago (you may remember my excitement about it - we talked about my writing a book for her), and she said she had a lot on her plate at the moment but would call me the next week. That week came and went without a peep from her. And, being afraid of calling and "bugging" her, I held off and held off on checking in. Finally, I found her email address when I was looking at her website this week and sent an email to reiterate the benefits of working together. I told her I'd call this Thursday (today!) to follow up. Then I got so busy in my JOB that I almost forgot, until just a few minutes ago. So I called and she was really happy to hear from me! Said that she was glad I followed up with her, and we set an appointment to meet in a few weeks (she lives in my town, so we're going to meet face-to-face). Yay!

Anyway, the moral of the story is: Don't be like me. LOL! Remember that your clients are busy (that's why they need us, after all!), so if they seem interested but don't call you when they say they will, swallow your fear and call them!

Way to go! Yes, follow up is very important. Unfortunately, I think it is one of the easiest things to let slip by!

Too true; it never hurts to remind a potential client that you are there. The fact that you reach out and try may set you apart from other VA's they are considering. It also shows skills that they may be able to utilize you for when they contract with you.

It is hard to do, being proactive. I find that I have a hard time 'nagging' people. But, I have to do this. I have a potential client, that I have had talks with, I run into her quite often and she wants to work with me, but never has the time to sit down and actually talk. I have to keep after her.

Thank you for the reminder that this needs to be done.

Why don't you offer to buy your prospective client lunch (or coffee) and let her know you want to sit down with her and show her some examples of how working with a VA can save her time and money? I would also prepare some examples that would fit her specific needs and show that to her too.

Good luck :-)

Congrats Tammi! That is so wonderful. I agree it's very important to be proactive. It shows them that you care enough to remember them and wanting to help.

Taryn made a great suggestion as well!
