Default Offering a discount for a referral
A very good client of mine referred someone to me recently. I wasn't able to accept working with the new client, but I'd like to still offer my referral discount on my client's upcoming invoice.

Even though I referred this referral to a great VA (whom I simply adore ), is it good practice to still offer my client the 'thank-you' discount? I'm thinking it is, but for some reason I'm thinking way too hard about it and quite frankly just not sure anymore .

Your experiences and thoughts are greatly welcomed!

Even though you didn't accept the referral, it was STILL a referral. I would absolutely give the discount to the referring client.

Thank you, Lily! I thought so ... I don't know why I was so unsure . Tomorrow's invoicing day (yay!) and I wanted to be sure I was doing the right thing!

Thank you!

I would give the discount. A thank you now may lead to more referrals in the future!

I agree! I would give a referral discount too. Even though you weren't able to take the referral on as a client, it shows your established client the appreciation. Which could lead to more referrals down the road, and at a time when your looking to add a new client

Yay! for invoice day

I would definitely offer a discount off the next invoice with a thank you. I like to send a handwritten thank you but that's how I do it.

You might also consider a referral policy that you can incorporate into your client contract. This might secure future referrals which are always the best kind.
