Don't get me wrong, I'm still excited about my client coming back and the project but I TOTALLY forgot how much she can wear me out. She's very "old school" (her favorite thing is to belt out pre 50's tunes) which is really kind of cool in certain ways, but she tends to be very judgmental and can be "challenging" for lack of better words.
I met her at a local bar/restaraunt to pick up a new batch of work. Randy, the owner, just had a really nice sunroom built onto it. I mentioned how nice it would be if he had wi-fi and he said that he did (

). Well, as I was leaving (hard task because my client wouldn't quit talking), I mentioned to the bartender that it was cool that Randy had wi-fi. Well my client asked me what wi-fi is and I told her that it was wireless internet. Boy, did that open up a whole can of worms that I wasn't prepared nor wanted to spend the time dealing with. I tried to explain to her how it works and I just kept getting the "why", "why", "why" thing. I even try to compare it to cordless phones (something that most people, including her, have) and then she asks, "well, who pays for this". So I have to go into that whole thing and then, when I told her that I could just come in with my laptop and use Randy's wi-fi for free, she kind of started acting like I was stealing it or something (keep in mind that I would ask Randy if he'd mind before I used it since he doesn't advertise it). This whole time, I'm actually standing in the middle of the doorway with the door open. I was trying soooo hard to keep my patience, but it was getting frustrating. Oh, and the whole time, the bartender keeps rolling her eyes at me which did NOT help...lol
Anyhow, sorry for dumping, I just needed to vent a bit. She's a wonderful person with a big heart and can be very interesting. She just has a VERY strong personality which makes me quite uncomfortable at times because I'm the complete opposite. (she has no qualms about saying anything on her mind without any thoughts of wether she might hurt someone's feelings or if she might be prying into personal territory). Has anyone else ever had clients like this or known anyone like this? Any tips for handling this kind of person without making her feel like I don't like her or appreciate her?
