Default My first potential client
I have only recently begun my career as a virtual assistant. My jobs thus far have been found by me researching and submitting my resume. Today I received an email from my first potential client who found my web site. I have a telephone interview with them today. I am a little nervous and wondered if anyone can give me some pointers on proceeding forward with a new client. My telephone call is at 11:00 est. Thanks for any tips you can provide. Dawn

Don't overpromise. Be honest about your skills and abilities. Don't be afraid.

Have a cheat sheet with you that lists what you offer and your rates. Take notes.

Congrats! I am sure you are nervous but just remember that the potential client is interested in something you have to offer - keep an outline handy of your experience and your services and you will do great!

do you have any indication of what they do and how they can use your services? Talk thoughs points up so they don't have to try to figure out if they need you or not.

It is a law office and I did request the lawyer to give me an idea of what she is looking for. She emailed me back with an idea of services she is requesting and it is paralegal work I have experience in. I am glad I put my fee on my web site as she has agreed to the amount. If I hadn't put the fee on the site, I would have had to negotiate that.

That is my ideal position - I am hoping to do work for law offices. I do offer my general services to any business though, but my passion is the law. I currently work in a law office now and they are very traditional. As a matter of fact they all are in this area. I would love to hear how it all goes and how the virtual paralegal position works for you.

Hi Dawn,

You have already been given some good advise here, just take a deep breath and sell yourself. You know what you can and cannot do, they are contacting you because they are interested in something that you have to offer and they already agreed to your rate, your first battle already won.

Good luck and you'll do fine. Keep us posted on the outcome.

:-) Kim

Thank you all. You provided me with some confidence I didn't have 15 minutes ago VAsteph I will keep you updated on how the VP is going. First thing though, do you have a web site? Very important. If you do can I view your site? If not, lets talk. I also design. I think first and foremost a web site is critical. I would not have received this potential client without it. I like that you can have people view your credentials, experience and rates before they contact you. A major hurdle you don't have to deal with later. Thanks again all. Dawn
