Default Keeping in Touch with Past Clients
Hi all!!

Hope you are having a great weekend so far. Okay, my situation is that my past clients have been more-so "one-time" project clients or once a month clients that I keep in touch with on a monthly basis. The one-time project once a month is fine with me since my virtual assistant business is on a part-time status at the moment, but for those clients, that haven't used you in let's say - four or more months - how do you keep in touch with those?

For me, I send out client feedback surveys once my assignment is completed with them and then touch base via phone AND email or sometimes via Skype (instant messaging). Do others send out snail mail such as postcards, holiday cards, etc. to keep in touch or is it stricly via internet only? I'm curious to hear more ideas or what your thoughts are.

I send my monthly newsletter to all my past clients and try to touch them with an individual email occassionally. Just a how is this project going or how is business kind of thing. This is just to keep my name out there with them and I send holiday greetings to them as well. Most of my correspondence is via internet.

It's a very good question. For now, I stay in touch by sending information I think will be helpful to their business. I also have google alerts set up with their names and businesses so when that appears, I send the link and a note. I try not to be too intrusive but this shows that I am interested in their industry and that I am staying on-top of what may be going on. My next step is a monthly newsletter.

I did send out handwritten holiday cards as well but that doesn't seem to be as effective as a quick email now again with a link to an article or a blog with their company information or industry information.

I also keep in touch consistently with my newsletters.. When I'm thinking of them particularly for one reason or another, I'll call or email to let them know I am still here and available :-)

Hi all,

This is very interesting as I am looking for ways of keeping in touch with not only my clients but people that I meet at various networking meetings in order to keep my profile in the forefront. As this is a broad spectrum of businesses I am finding it hard to judge what news they would like to receive, should it all be about me/my business, the VA industry? How do I find a happy medium? Is a monthly newsletter/email too often - any advice would be greatly appreciated. Jill

I keep a pretty detailed list of current clients, past clients, leads/referrals, project-only clients, and clients who had referred me to someone else. I send physical holiday gifts to every client I've dealt with in the past year. Yes, this business is virtual, but sending something physically to them will definitely keep you in their minds! (since you took the time and effort)

I also keep in touch with past clients as well! What's great about doing that is even though they may have used your services on an as needed basis or for a quick project, they make great referral generators! One of my very first clients passed on my name to a colleague a year ago. Just last week I got a call from the person who held my name, he had a client that needed a VA! After almost three years in business, I am getting more and more referrals and building lasting relationships!

Suffice it to say that is pays to stay in touch...in more ways than one!
