Default Job Advertisements?
Hi everyone!

I'm new to the "marketing yourself as a VA" world, and I have a question. A friend / networking colleague forwarded to me a job advertisement where the company is looking for a part-time social media manager. This is something I am qualified for and would LOVE to do, but it seems like they are looking for an employee. As with most, they are probably not too familiar with how a VA could help them. Have any of you had this situation? And how have you handled it - with introducing yourself and persuading them to hire you as a VA and not employee? Any help would be greatly appreciated! I'd love to send in some information soon.

Thanks!
Erin

Hi Erin,

This is what I have found in my research - you are not actually applying for the job but supplying them with a list of services .... and if you have any testimonials or previous work that always helps!

Hi Erin,

I would create a welcome packet. There is a great thread here on VAF as to what that wold include. Make it look great.

Create a professional email introducing yourself and the go right into how you can provide a solution to their social media woes. Are they looking to create a newsletter? Indicate how you can help navigate people to their website to sign up for a newsletter.

Explain that you are a virtual assistant and a business owner. I would bulletize a few reasons to work with a VA, i.e., no water cooler breaks, no vacation time, no down time, no sick days, no desk space, etc.

Include links to social media sites which you have worked on or to your own and make sure it is picture perfect.

Provide links to your testimonial page on your website although some of this can be included in your welcome packet.

If you have piqued their interest, ask for a consultation.

Have your contract ready. My suggestion is not to work on a trial basis or probation period. This is what employees do.

Good Luck!

Janine
