Default Heard back from an ad I applied to..How to respond?
I applied to a Craigslist ad seeking a part-time admin assistant. I sent along my resume and an email explaining who I was and that I believed I could help as a Virtual Assistant.

I just received a message from the company's HR department asking me to phone them back. What I'm worried about is that they overlooked my Virtual Assistant spiel and saw only my resume. I'm psyching myself up to call back because I don't know how to respond if they want me to come in and interview for the Admin position only. I'm sure many of you have been faced with something similar..how do you explain what you do without losing out?

Thanks!!

First off, don't assume . I would call them back and if they ask for a face-to-face, explain that, as your original response stated, you are a virtual assistant but would love to discuss working with them...

Hi Caroline; Do Not Assume. I would call them and do what Lily suggested. I have been in your suituation and it did turn out good... I have them now for my client. What happen to me was that this client was not aware of what a Virtual Assistant can do for them... Good Luck.

I'm so horrible pitching over the phone but ok I'll definitely take your advice. Do you have any helpful guidelines when pitching the idea? I find I go blank when I'm on the phone in situations such as these!

You have already received great tips! To add a little more I would sit down and think of the services they need and how to represent your business to meet their needs. This way you have an idea of what words to use either on the phone or in person. This may help ease your anxiety (at least a little).

Something I always do before I do a phone interview is look over any information I can find on the business; their website, in your case maybe the phone book and local paper too. Just get an idea of what they do, and how they operate. This will give you a "head start" so to speak.

!!Good Luck!!

I have found when applying for "jobs" that clients tend to over look the VA part, but once I explain the benefits and how I can help them, I have retained quite a few clients. So many people have not heard about VA's yet, that it takes some education.
