Default Do you tell your client that you are going to sub-contract?
hello,

I have a client and she wants me to do some cold calling for her. This is one thing that I HATE the most. I have done a bit for her, but it seems that I dont have time to call people when it is quiet as I have a 18 month old at home as well. I want to sub-contract this out to another va and my question is, when you want to sub-contract out, do you tell your client that you are doing so?

thanks!

Yes, you tell your client that you are subcontracting out a service.

Here's a good thread about this same topic here on VAF. You can search in the upper right corner under 'search' if you want more information.

It's something that I discuss in the consult call and it's in the contract as well.

I agree with MondayMorn and Janine, you should always be upfront with the client. Although I do not actually have my business up and running. Some things that you learn from working in admin do stick....lol... I worked with a company that did business management and the only part that the actual "boss" did was the event management side...the rest of it fell to me. The actual business that was being managed thought that all the work was done by my "boss". The only way they found out was coming into the office and seeing me at work on their requests. Then the questions came...and then the additional boost to the company pay, of which I got none. Looking at all of this, it was like the work was subcontracted to me, but for less than I was worth. By the way ...this is one of the reasons that I am now where I am. My point- always be upfront and you will have the clientel and the additional support that you need. In my opinion, a client can not fault you for sub-contracting, if the idea does not appeal to them, there is always the next.

Yes you should tell them, especially since you will not be making the calls. Let the client know that you are expanding your team with someone who specializes in cold calling and they will be handling that task so you can concentrate on your area(s) of expertise.

I agree that you need to be up front and tell your client that you will be subcontracting.

Thank you for this post and the replies. I am starting to think about subcontracting and was not sure how to handle. I'm not sure that they need to know who the person is who is subcontracting though. Just that I have screened them carefully. I'd prefer all client contact to come directly through me.
