Clients (Husband & Wife Team)
Hi Everyone,

I have two clients, which are also husband and wife, and also have several different businesses together and seperate. I would like to cancel service with one person (wife) and continue to work with the other (husband).

The wife knows what she wants done, but is not focus. It makes it hard to work with her. Examples, setting up appointments and she doesn't show up or she ready but all the work is not there.

The husband, is always ready, but is not focus. However, I can talk to him and he gets back on track. I found taking him out of the office to a coffee shop without family and friends, he is very focus.

For a $60 job it took 7 months to do, and additional 3 months to get paid.

I like them, they are great people. Plus they also like my work and have told everyone good things about me. I have gotten some large work from them (via word of mouth). However, it's taking a way time from other clients.

How do I stop the madness!!!

Julian

Julia,

As you probably already know, you are in a 'pickle'. You can not cancel someone or drop one spouse, without hurting the other one's feelings, but you are trying to run your business.

I recommend that you talk to the wife and let her know how you feel. Just explain that you appreciate that all she has done to help your business grow, but you feel that maybe someone else would better fit her business needs.

Try to explain to her that you feel like you're not helping her because... (list the reasons that you would like to quit her, but make it sound like you are the one that isn't helping her). Does that make sense?

Offer to assist in finding your replacement. Sometimes people's attitudes don't mix and it's no one's fault. You just have to hope that you are able to place her with someone who is patient enough to walk her through, what sounds like, her every step of the day.
