Default Black-listing Companies
Hi Ladies,

I'm sure that there are an unlucky few on here that have been "taken" by clients from legitimate companies who received work and did not pay their invoices.

I'm not sure how professional it is to "out" a company/client for non-payment but then again they're not acting professionally when they refuse to pay for whatever reason. We've all seen returned checks posted on the walls of some merchants. Why should we be any different?

Are there companies out there that have been "black-listed" in addition to the scammers. Do any of you have a roster of clients that did not hold up their end of the bargain?

There is absolutely nothing unprofessional about withholding services from a company who cannot pay their bills. In my day job we work with automotive customers where non-shipment means thousands and thousands of dollars if a line goes down, but if our customer isn't paying, we don't ship, bottom line. And there is nothing wrong with that. In my VA contract it is written clearly the terms for payment and non-payment means no services after a certain amount of time, and there isn't much forgiveness either. If they kept it up, I would certainly end all business relationships.

I agree with JacksonAO that it is totally within a VAs right to set and maintain policies for clients and to make decisions on how to handle the 'bad eggs' but to answer the question about sharing information about who thee non-paying, difficult to work with, or just plain nightmare clients are - that wouldn't be something I would personally participate in. I wouldn't recommend or refer them to another VA, but I also wouldn't bad mouth them or make public whatever the transgression might have been - it would reflect poorly on my as a professional and isn't something I'd be comfortable doing.
