LaTosha,

I really enjoyed the article I think that you explained thoroughly the pros and cons to bartering. I certainly think that bartering will be beneficial to my business as I am just starting out. What do you think about bartering for references?

The only edit that you may want to consider in the article is

Find professionals whose products or services that will satisfy your needs.

You may want to change to:
Find professionals whose products or services will satisfy needs.

Great read!

Great article and you've gotten your point across well. I once bartered my services with a plumber for some work on our house and would do it again since it was a win-win. But like you said make sure it is an agreement you can live and work with.

Thanks for sharing.

Nice article, thank you. At the moment I do barter 50/50 with one of my clients. She has a faux finishing school here in town and half of what I earn with her goes toward classes. I still NEED to paint to stay sane so it works for both of us. I keep track of it in QB on the invoices so I know at the end of the year what is what.

I am glad you enjoyed the article and thanks for your comments. I had honestly never thought of bartering as means of obtaining products and services, but writing this article gave me the opportunity to see how both parties can benefit.
I don't see anything wrong with bartering for references. You are still performing a job even if you are not getting paid with money (again, you have to know your limitations because you don't want to get burdened with a large amount of non paying gigs-this defeats the purpose of going into business!).
