Avg. Number of Clients
Hi
I was just wondering what your average number of clients is at one time? Do you ever turn down business because of other commitments?

Re: Avg. Number of Clients
Well right now I have 4 clients, but that is the most I've had! I'd try hard not to turn down good work opportunities, but I would refer to another VA if truly necessary or if someone needed skills I didn't have!

Re: Avg. Number of Clients
At this time I have nearly a dozen clients. I have hired a sub-contractor to help with 2 of my clients. Some have work nearly every day, others just once a month or so. It all depends on their needs. Since I'm looking to expand my business to be able to keep a sub-contractor busy, I won't turn down work as long as I can do it or my sub-contractor can do it.

Re: Avg. Number of Clients
I believe I have 13 active clients right now and 2 of them are on temporary hold. I also subcontract a lot of my work and services. My clients all require daily activiity except for the ones on hold and one is just about finished. I do not turn down any work and should their be a client that requires something out of the ordinary such as working from the office part time etc I will help the client source the correct person such as directing them to the assocations or offering to post for them.

Re: Avg. Number of Clients
Hi everyone:
I work as a virtual assistant on a part-time basis and currently service ten (10) clients. I am getting to a point in where I will need to turn down work for one prospective client for another project he wants me to do.
I am thinking in this situation, I have networked with a handful of other VAs and always "refer" the client to another associate of mine, but do not pay the sub-contractor rates.
I mean, in my opinion, if I were the client, I would personally like to deal with the individual working on my project versus the project manager. Good information on what others do in this situation.
Great discussion!

Re: Avg. Number of Clients
I have around 10 clients, but they are not all necessarily needing my services at once. I find as soon as I accept some other work, that's when everyone wants me and I have had to seek assistance from others a couple of times. I realised that a couple of them were a bit too high maintenance and have now referred them to other VA's to help. It all depends on the time used and how much time you want to spend working. Any work I have knocked back has usually been sub-contracting for another VA when I too busy. If a potential client contacts me and I can't do or don't want the work, I will offer to contact my network to find someone to assist them and they think it's wonderful that I have a network when I work from home.

Re: Avg. Number of Clients
I have 8 CORE clients.. those stable and consistent ones and I usually have about 3 or 4 projects that I'm working on in addition to that at any given time. I'm also dual career so that is pretty much all I can handle right now.. Not feeling comfortable about subcontracting at the moment so I'm going to need to makes some decisions.

Wow Tamika, I didn't realize you had two careers going. You are busy. If I may ask, what is it about subcontracting that you're uncomfortable with? I'm not at a point where I need to sub out yet, in fact I sub for other VA's, but I'm aspiring to get to that point and I'd love to hear people's thoughts on the subject.

Re: Avg. Number of Clients
Do most VA's strive to get retainer clients versus hourly, occasional clients? If so, how many of you only work with retainer clients and how do you turn down occasional clients?

Re: Avg. Number of Clients
@va-4-hire.. I'm just seeing this.. I am very particular about how I support those whom I support. I think it has to do with my corporate background. But since typing that I have found a subcontractor that has worked out great and I'm very excited about her.
