Default Appropriate follow-up time?
Once you have sent a proposal to someone you have spoken with, how much time do you typically wait to follow up with that person if you have not heard anything? Is your follow-up wait time different if the proposal was sent to a fellow VA versus an "outside" client? I have read many things on how to follow up, but have not come across any good timelines to follow so that I'm not being a nag and yet not missing opportunities.

If it's someone who specifically asked for a proposal from you, I would follow up within a couple days if I didn't hear from them sooner. It's probably a good idea to ask when you can expect a response, when you submit the proposal in the first place.
If the person didn't specifically ask for a proposal, and this is more about marketing cultivation, you can let more time go by - but not too much! A week at the most; otherwise you'll be forgotten.
It kind of amazes me how fast things go on the internet. In my experience, if you don't get a response in 24 hours, you're probably not going to get one.

I completely agree with Mary's answer!
Anyone who specifically asks you for a proposal wants to hear from you - not hearing back right away can mean a few things, not the least of which is that they really, really need your services b/c they are swamped busy!

I'd say the same rule applies to VAs as potential clients as well.

Default Re: Appropriate follow-up time?
When someone inquires about our services, I would send them the information via email, then after 3 days I would send a follow-up email asking if there were any questions about the information...if no response from that, I would then give them a phone call in the next 2 days...giving the overall initial follow-up process 5 days to be completed.

If after the 5 days I have not heard from them, I would make a note to call them after another 5 days. That would give the entire follow-up process a two-week period (business days of course).

Thanks for all your input! This gives me a good idea of how to space out my follow-up.
