Default 5 Requests a Client Should Not Ask of a Virtual Assistant - Your Virtual Wizard Blog
It goes without saying that lying is unethical and immoral. Eventually, the truth will be told. If you must be untruthful, do not involve your virtual assistant in your misdeeds. Do not ask your virtual assistant to fudge any numbers, reword documents with falsehoods or use a different name if she is to make calls for you.

Do not ask your VA to post positive comments on a blog about you or your business if your customers or employees have posted negative comments with the intention of marring your reputation. Take care of the problem yourself.

Do not ask your VA to lower her rate. If you ...Click here to read the rest of this post at Your Virtual Wizard.

Love this!
I've had a few clients I've let go due to their questionable actions.
I cannot and will not condone anything that is illegal, immoral or violates my principles.

Thanks for Blogging about this!

Thanks everyone for your comments!

There have been times I have been asked to do something for a client and a little voice inside says, "...hmmm...this doesn't seem right." I am confident now to listen to that voice and speak up when something is not 'on the up and up' but I can recall in the beginning when I was a new VA, I felt pressured to do something I didn't really want to do.

That was the purpose of this blog post.

When I was asked to post positive comments to a negative blog post about the owner of a VA team of which I was a member I heard that 'little voice' say that this was not right! The problem was that this was my only client at the time paying so little that it was frustrating.

I knew it wasn't right and I thought for a very long time as to what I should do given that the other team members complied and starting posting positive comments when I knew that they were not true.

So I dropped the client and said I would not do this and that it was against my principles. I was black-listed from the team unofficially and not one assignment was ever sent to me again.

It was then that I pushed myself to go out on my own. I had the business name and the EIN number but not the marketing experience to go out and get my own clients.

That's when I came here to VAF, started researching, asking questions and listening closely to the expert VAs. It wasn't long before that first client came along and I set business policies which included no deceitful requests.

And the rest is history...

So I pass that tidbit on to anyone else who is asked to do something that the 'little voice' is telling them not to do. As hard as it might be, in the long run, it builds confidence and success.

Janine, thank you for sharing your story.

It's not easy having to make decisions like that especially when starting out but I firmly believe in listening to your gut feelings and sticking to your principles. Better that, than compromise your integrity and live with regret.

Here's to confidence and success!

Great post, I think nervousness leads some to make choices to accept clients they wouldn't normally.

I have a gut policy. If my gut says this is bad, I say no. So far we've avoided any of those terrible clients.

I agree wholeheartedly! I couldn't imagine anyone being dishonest and prepared to pay for it until last week when I got a phone call from a student of our local university who wanted me to take her research to write a paper! When I told her, I write my papers; I don't ghost write student papers since she's the one who's suppose to be learning and that her professor is more interested in what she knows than what I know.

I was so disappointed because I thought I finally had a client!

Reminds me of my life in corporate world. I feel much better about adamantly putting my foot down. Thanks for the reminder!
