Just wondering; I am having problems reading the posts because of the background. I was wondering if there is a setting that can be changed. Tried one setting with optiions: default and grey fluid but that must be for individual posts not the entire page. New here, what a great forum!
If you go to Settings (menu at top of main site page) > Settings and Options (on the left on the page) > Edit Options > Misc Options and then scroll down to 'Show Background Image' and change that to 'no' - that should fix this for you.

An aside re: the skins you were seeing, there is actually only the one skin available, you must have seen that option during a time when we were working on the site.
