Question What to call what I do?
Hi Ladies...been reading with great interest all the posts about niches and social media...and the amazing offerings of the companies here!

My thing is SETUP (and basic maintenance TO the setup as opposed to the actual media management):

Blogs - Wordpress, Blogger, soon TypePad
Facebook Fan Pages
Twitter Page backgrounds
Shopping Carts
Joomla
Sitebuilder
Linked Consultant shopping cart/pages (not affiliate)

I do the setup, and maintenance when changes, upgrades are needed.

Then basic how to and they move on to using themselves....or another type of "social media" marketing type service.

I am not sure what to call myself....or how to present this as such.

I can offer the added services...but that is not really my thing.

So, am I a:

Social Media Setup Specialist? (sounds like ai do the whole profile.....there are those that DO that)

Virtual Internet Assistant

Virtual Social Media Developer (sounds like I rewrite code..can make adjustments but not rewrtie)

Blog & Facebook Setup Specialist?

And creating and maintaining Facebook Fan Pages.

Taking a course on Fantastic Facebook Fan Pages thru VA CLassroom...and also an extended training called "Blog Evangelist" that concentrates on educating and training LOCAL small businesses on the value of blogs to build their LOCAL customer base.

So maybe I am 2 things...a Local Business Blog Evangelist (....hmmm) AND a Facebook Fan Page creator.

And leave the entire VA thing out entirely.

I KNOW what I want to do......but not sure how to say it or title myself.

ANY help with this would be greatly appreciate while I formalize biz name etc.

PS...I find that what I did for several small new launch DS businesses over the last few years is now called "Online Business Manager"....had no idea then what I was ......but that says it all. Again, CAN do it but that is not my true love.

These are all registered....and pending "who am I" (I'm a domain name junkie..I will admit)

www.YourFacebookFanPage.com

www.BuildYourBizBlog.com

www.YourInternetProfile.com

www.InternetRooftop.com (my original idea....building your local business when your rooftop is the internet. Still my favorite..but one guy online said it sounded like I talked businesses into having parties on their roof. Sounds like a crock to me...but maybe he's right)

Lorian Rivers

I am taking the blog evangelist course too. I think that it is an excellent service to promote locally. I cannot wait to get started on that... I would like to take the facebook makeover course too but with 5 kids and christmas coming up funds are a little tight right now. I am hoping to get a little extra money and grab tht course too.

I have not thought that far ahead on how to market that type of service though.

Hi! Thanks so much for replying! I see my post has been read a bunch but was not getting an feedback...was getting worried! I'm going to promote the Facebook Fan Pages now...while I work on my BE course and learn as much as I can before I jump into the local market. I really believe that it will be an excellent business once we can get it going!

Hi Lorian,

I have looked at this thread many times lol. To be honest the only thing I could come up with is, Developer. Virtual Assistant Developer? Most people are looking for someone to do the maintaining of the pages and sites. They want someone to put up their information, and they usually do not have the time to do it themselves.

You can call yourself anything you like and in my honest opinion you should just list your services.

For instance, your business name does not have to be Virtual Assistant Social Media and Site Developer. You see what I mean? That is incredibly long lol

I would focus on your business name and then list your services.

InternetRoofTop is really cute, but it does not really tell me what you do. As building a home starts from the bottom up.

You are in the website and social media niche. You could use a name such as Surefire Virtual Assistant, or Rivers Virtual Support, or Rivers Virtual Services.

Maybe something along those lines, then do a logo and site that shows off your skills.

Good luck and sorry it took so long to answer your reply
Andrea

I agree with you that it will be a great service to market locally. I wanted to ask you did you like the facebook fan pages course? I really really want to take it. I am expecting a google check this month and I may invest it into that course.

I am real excited to get this marketed in my community.

how far are you on the blog evangelist program. I am in the beginning...lesson 4 today. I cannot wait until I get to the wordpress part

Glad to have met you through this forum, maybe we can bounce ideas off each other...

Trish....the Facebook Course is amazing! I had NO IDEA you could do all the things with a Fan Page that we learned last week! There is a TON of info..the videos are very detailed....worth every penny. This week we get the advanced setups....for really making the pages work... and then last day is how to make a business out of the setup.

I really think if you can...you should invest in the course. They have a free 30 day trial of their membership..and you can then get a discount code for taking the course. I have every intention of staying a member after the month is up. And would love to be able to afford the Social Media class.....now that I know how much they really have available in a course!

I'm on Lesson 11 of the Blog Evangelist course.

Lorian,

I'll be zero help on helping you figure out what to call yourself since what you want to do falls in line with the sort of projects I think I want to take on...and haven't figured out a name for, either

But I like Andrea's idea of just having a business name, without the VA/Social Media/Facebook Fan Page Builder designation. I think that's where tag lines can come in handy, to explain in a bit more detail what your niche is. It also gives you more flexibility to move into other areas, if needed.

Rivers Virtual Services
Building Your Facebook Fan Pages

Blah, I know, but hopefully, you get the idea!

I'm off to check out that VA Classroom course you mentioned...

I'm new to VA so I couldn't advise you exactly on what to call your business but the Blog Evangelist sounds awesome...I think that at least you have some very solid ideas of what you enjoy to do.

I agree that it is wonderful you have a solid idea of what you want to do. There are so many ways to specialize and the more I read the more boggled my brain becomes. I really appreciate all the posts. Thank you.
