Hi guys! I've been beating my brains to find the right niche for me but then I had this idea I'm a bit of a creative type and what ends up happening is that I think of waaay too many things I WANT to do and loose track of the things that will help me most in the more immediate future. They say "admitting" is the first step! hehe I've known I'm guilty for a while so I definitely have researched my options and I thought of this possibility.. Hear me out-

I've read a few comments here and there on the subject that this is a demographic (artists, spirituality people, etc) that can have a bit of a harder time with some tasks since they are firstly focused on their creative passion. I have some friends in these fields I am helping with their twitter accounts and I've found it really, really fun to help them figure out the answers to questions I myself have been very challenged with. Questions about the client base you are seeking and how you want them to perceive you are existential traps. I think on a different level is true of us newbies here as we try to figure out what we want our businesses to look like. I read everything I can and every podcast I can, but my hands on experience isn't much. I manage the Twitter account for the company I work for during the day and I'm doing work for these guys for free in exchange for the experience and testimonials. I don't mind as these are people that otherwise would probably not be potential clients (just yet). I feel it is defiantly a fair exchange, but it does leave me a bit curious. I guess my question to all you veterans is--Would this work as a focus my training and experience for my VA business in order to create a niche? VA and Personal Assistant, specializing in social media for creative entrepreneurs and freelancers? I know I'm getting a bit ahead of myself, but I like to know just where I'm going.

Side note:
I would love to find mentorship with someone. I definitely do my best to actively network and get opinions but I'm not sure how this works. I don't want to come off as pushy by asking I'm just excited to learn and can't think of better people than the ones I've found here. Do you guys think I should post a thread inviting willing mentors? I have seen posts on here, but many of there were a bit old and the links didn't work. :/
Again, I'm just starting out so I'm just curious to see if this is a road worth taking in terms of how I market my business. I'll be redoing my website soon but I want to settle into a niche first.

It is a great niche. I work with a very unique artist and it took a little while for us to get on the same page as she works differently from the rest of the world. You however have taken the first step by working with some of these types.

I now love working with creative types now that I know how their brains work. I have also found this niche successful as they like to concentrate on their craft and leave the rest to others so they do not get brain clutter.

Once thing I did find as far as social media from two of my creative types was they want to run their own since they are very specialized and have a unique following who will know if it is not them posting. Therefore I just monitor to make sure nothing is neglected but do not post for them or their art.

Hi Lee! Thanks so much for your input! I'm actually having a lot of fun. One of them is a videographer I have been friends with for years. He is very energetic and dynamic and wants to be really involved but isn't sure how to do it and doesn't have much time. With him I plan to just help him build an audience by making a little plan based on a few different analytics tools. That way I figured we can get the type of clients he wants by looking at similar people in the industry. As I work with him I'll set up Hootsuite account and involve him in the process. I figure it would be both coaching and assisting. When you said that I thought of him. Is that something like what you would do with a client?

I love to hear you say this. I'm glad there are people doing this. I an artist myself but unfortunately, I could not afford the high cost of private art colleges so I went into the workforce early on. Having worked in different supervisory positions I feel like my brain works "both ways" lol. I'm naturally a creative type person that had to learn to be organized and prioritize so I see this as an advantage. I do think that those people tend to be more personal and inspiring relationships I find that the more I talk to them the more my right brain translates their needs to my left brain and I intuitively think of ways to help them in small ways that do make a difference for them. These are not paid jobs, but I have received enough reward in just knowing how grateful they are do more of what they love.

I think you're off to a great start! It sounds like you already have hands-on experience in the social media niche. You are generating social media content. Maybe it doesn't seem like true work to you because you enjoy it and that probably means you've found a good niche for yourself. I think it's true that focusing on one thing instead of many can set you apart and benefit your business.
As for mentorship, have you checked out MicroMentor.org? I would also recommend going to local business-oriented/entrepreneur events to meet like-minded people.

Thanks for the tip! I'm going to definitely check that out. I actually just typed out another huge post detailing how I plan to go about this lol. But its true that it certainly does not fee like work!
