Default VA in the Finance Industry
Hey everyone!

Hope everyone is having a great afternoon. I've been thinking hard for a long time about starting my own VA business. This forum has become a great resource. I was just wondering if any of you are a VA to a Financial Advisor, Investment Specialist, or Insurance Agent. I've worked and currently work as an Administrative Assistant in this field and was just curious if anyone was actually a VA to this type of client. Any input would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

Hi I know Doreen Patrick of VBP (Virtual Business Partners) specializes in the finance and insurance industries - she's busy managing a team of VAs now so isn't on the boards much lately, but I'd recommend looking up her site.

Although not quite the same industry I work with a mortgage broker in Toronto. It is varied in the support they need and I enjoy working with them. If this is what you like to do then I am sure you will find people in this industry that will need your support.

Great, thank you ladies! Although I do enjoy it, I'll have to start looking more in depth and decide if it is something I truly want to do.

I have a "sales assistant" type business. I actually formed a relationship with a go to Financial Advisor and I get paid for investments as well as my administrative service.

It has been a while since I have been here!! I work in the financial services industry and I have had fairly good success with it. I work more on the sales, marketing and business development end, along with back office support. There doesn't seem to be too many of us that specialize, but there is a definite value that we provide to this industry.

Thank you! I'm sure I'll be coming back here in the future with more questions as I get closer to really buckling down and starting this business from the ground up. I really appreciate all the input!

I've just started up as a VA in the UK and since most of my previous PA experience has been in the financial services sector (specifically pensions) I was also looking to possibly specialise in this field. I've joined some of the very many groups on LinkedIn for IFAs - perhaps you could look at joining some of these and it may give you a way in.

I have a background in finance too. If you already have many contacts in this field you could test the waters and also take an inventory of the tasks you do on a daily basis that could be completed off-site. For example, when I was working as a compliance specialist many of the forms the broker-dealer required were available off the company's website with the advisor's log-in. All of which I could do at home.

Hope this helps!
