Great idea especially for the new VA's and people looking into being a VA (myself included in this). I imagine that we can learn a lot from a new start-up as we help them which should benefit everyone.

My only advice is to make sure before contacting them that you know what you are going to say. A script so to speak. The best way is to find out what they do, ask a lot of questions and try to approach them as just starting with one need. Then when they see how valuable you are going to be to them the rest will come.

VAF, great information, thanks for sharing. I'm new and can't wait to get started with my first client.

I'm in the final stages of starting my business and I'm glad I'm not alone with trying to figure out everything. I'm trying to learn how to tweet then facebook fan page, etc. So much to learn after leaving the corporate world.

Besides the Chamber how else do we find new and small business start ups? Also what type of information should be included in the mailing?

I went to SCORE several years ago when I thought about a start-up with a couple of other people. It never happened, but now I'm thinking about going back to SCORE to refresh my memories, and then once I'm officially my own VA small-business ask them if they would consider referring to me people with the intent and ability to start a business, but not the time or expertise to do all the paperwork to get themselves started properly. Or to at least leave the marketing materials in their office for people to take with them.
