Ok...so I feel terrible! Is it bad that I don't have a niche?
My VA business is kind of 2 parts - one being "administrative" and the other being "creative". But I don't know that I can really call it a niche...
Administrative - most anything in the office:
- Basic admin help
- Last minute temp!
- Marketing (Campaign design and follow through)
- Event planning (From the small office meeting to travel arrangments)
- Special Event Reminder
- Virtual Calendar
- Data Entry
- A/R Calling (From client office)
- Office Organization (My favorite - and most time consuming)
- and so much more...
Creative:
- Handmade greeting cards
- Hand addressed mail (greeting cards, meeting reminders, etc.)
- Handmade ID cards for children in daycare centers
- Handmade gifts for special events (new baby, wedding, etc.)
- I could go on and on...
This all started when I was working for a fairly large insurance company. I was just applying to help out at their reception desk. They loved me so much at my interview, they created a position for me. They hired me to be the assistant in the CRC (Client Relations Center) I began doing must of the above for them and was very dedicated. Unfortunately, I was WAY more dedicated than the director of that department. I think he felt like I was outshining him and so after 2 1/2 months he decided he didn't really need help and with no where else to put me they just could not use me anymore.
During my exit interview the Office Director said that I was terrific and really needed to own my own business. I use to do basic admin from my home years ago when I was pregnant with my daughter - so I just restarted my business - Voila! - here I am.
On the bright side of things I became a licensed Life and Health Insurance Rep for the State of Texas. So I can help in those type offices - although I am not interested in limiting myself to one industry...
After reading all of your posts I feel like my plan is really way out there - but I love what I do...
