This was a great exercise for me as I try to get my business up and running and focus on a niche.

Wow! Almost two years this thread has been going strong! With all the help from reading threads like this, I am starting to see the light. It's still a little overwhelming, but I like how some broke down their services into subgroups. That really helps in trying to sort out all the stuff swimming in my head, I can think and focus on one subgroup at a time. Thank you all.

I find my biggest problem is narrowing services down. I'm worried that I am going to end up offering too many different services that I won't be able to handle it. Reading this thread has helped me make some decisions on how I should narrow them down. I will post as soon as I'm finished with the list.

I can't remember who posted this, but I think it's a great idea to target WAHM's. I was initially going to target small businesses and start-ups, but I'm liking the idea of supporting one of our own as well!

What's a WAHM? Just never seen that term.

Speaking of niches, I was going to post this question and I guess I can ask it here.

Two of my niches were construction and German language related admin work, aside from translations of documents, which I was not going to charge by the hour.

But yesterday I HAD MY FIRST CLIENT MEETING!!!!! Who happens to be an American Construction Firm, building projects for German Companies here in the States. He was really excited that I found him and sent him one of my introduction emails in the fall last year, offering my services because now he feels like he has a more personal liason between his company and his German client, with me being able to communicate with them in their language more.
But that made me think. If I list my per hour fee for construction related work at one price and my German language related work at $10/hour more but then I have a client that requires both niches, do I charge all my work with the higher fee, or can/should I combine both somewhat and charge maybe 50% more of the higher fee, to cover both niches?

I hope this is not too confusing. I appreciate your feedback.
