Resume and CV writing niche
I'm finding that I am doing a lot more reworking of people's CV/resumes over the last few months.

To be honest what I am doing is pretty basic, cutting out the clutter and making it more presentable for an employer to look at.

I would very much like to be able to do an online course or maybe something that will give me an accreditation as I think that one of my clients may be needing this service in the not too distant future (hopefully)!

I'm based in the UK - does anyone have any suggestions where I could get some information? Or maybe something you have tried and tested yourself.

It is something I have always been interested in and I think would be a very useful niche for my business.

Thank you in advance!

I agree that this would be a very valuable service to offer - especially now as many people are looking for work. Sorry, I don't know about any courses, however, maybe you can start marketing this service based on the work you have done. Certainly editing a resume is easier than starting from the beginning, but it is still a skill that many people don't have. Keep a list of different resumes/CVs you've done for different types of industries, get some testimonials from satisfied clients, and keep track of how many people get a job after you've reworked their resume. And ask your happy clients for referrals. You might be able to build up a good niche without having to take any courses.

Good luck!

Avocet, there are indeed certification programs for resume writers. I have several resume writers as clients, and I know that you'll be able to make a lot more with the certification than you're probably charging now. For details, check out the Professional Association of Resume Writers & Career Coaches.

If you are looking at this as a possible niche and business expansion opportunity, you may also want to look at creating Linkedin profiles for your resume clients. Many recruiters are using it to search for qualified professionals now.

Re: Resume and CV writing niche
Thank you guys for your thoughts so far - keep the ideas flowing!

Janice - I never even thought about LinkedIn - what a fantastic idea and one I most certainly implement!

Janet- thanks for the link - I will check it out! To be honest I'm only really charging for a rewrite of the CV/resume so having some sort of accreditation will boost my income!!

Gladys - Thanks for your suggestions and words of encouragement. I've certainly got into the habit in saving all my work - it's amazing how much easier life is with a "template" to work from!

Thanks again!

Hi, I do resumes for clients all the time. There is software out there with templates, but what most clients need is the correct writing and words to make them look top notch - many are to shy to blow their own horn, so I love adding the adjectives for them! It is a part of my "basket full of skills" I offer. Good Luck with that!

I have had some success by visiting thne local unemplyment office - handing out cards, talkikng with the workers there, putting up a poster. FOlks are unemployhed so I don't charge much, but overall resume review services are about $1000 a month for me.

I'd lilke to get more work from job-changers where I could be comfortable chargine my normal rates.

Thanks for the ideas here!

Jo
