Hi! This is my niche as well. I have many years of experience as a contruction admin and Florida has so many subcontractors.

I actually went to yellowpages.com to get a listing of photographers in my area and am in the process of creating a direct mailing campaign to send to them. I checked into purchasing a list, but at this point it is too expensive. Most of them are going to get you the same information you can access yourself online.

I think contractors is a good niche right now. Many of them are overwhelmed with the economy and by taking some of the tasks from them they can concentrate on growing their business more effectively.

I agree with you. Many of the smaller companies cannot afford full time help right now because they do not have enough work to cover their salary, but certain things still need to get done.

Couple of other thoughts on finding contractors:

Go to your local newspaper. They have a listing of various contractors and their services. This might give you some ideas on where to market your services.

There are trade-specific organizations/associations. Check online for one in your area.

Check your chamber of commerce. Some have their members listings are set-up by type of industry. It depends on the chamber.

Niche marketing is the process of finding and serving profitable market segments and designing custom-made products or services for them. For big companies those market segments are often too small in order to serve them profitably as they often lack economies of scale. Niche marketers are often reliant on the loyalty business model to maintain a profitable volume of sales. this also means theres a gap in the market. An often used technique for affiliate marketers

I used to work for an engineering firm and I became comfortable with engineering & building terminology...I wonder if this can be molded into a niche as well.

Its been a struggle trying to figure out how to combine my accounting/bookkeeping and other adminstrative skills with my attraction to and understanding of the construction industry and work from home. Has anyone looked into construction forums? This seems like a very comfortable niche for me too.

That was my original idea for my niche too. I have 3 years experience in the title industry and love doing all that stuff. I have been so busy with other projects (not in my niche) to really go out and market to them. I want to target title abstractors but right now there have been so many layoffs in the title business that I don't know what to think. Good luck to both of us! LOL

I have found that the quickest "IN" for a new market is a local networking group. I use meetup.com to find networking groups in my area. Another great - but very expensive - option is BNI.com. BNI can have fees upward of $1000 per year once you include the weekly meeting dues in my area, but they offer training & classes that are very helpful as well as hooking you up with a mentor to help you build your business.
