I just rec'd an email about this today and thought I'd post it here for anyone who is getting ready to register a new domain - apparently at Register.com you can register any new domain for free for the first year right now.

Just a heads up about register.com from personal experience.

One of my current clients has used their hosting services for a few years now and in the last 2 years we have had MANY issues when it comes to their integrated email system. The client doesn't utilize his web presence except for actually having a site up (mainly for contact info) so I can't judge how they are with that side of it. Just beware the email system. I have several emails a week that don't show and then will show up randomly all at once although they were sent at different times and on different days.
I'm in the process of getting the client to go elsewhere for his hosting.

That's really good to know - I was actually just posting the free domain reg offer and NOT recommending the hosting (which would be silly since we offer hosting right here ) SO - to clarify, assuming the offer allows you to truly register a domain for free for the first year - it's a good way to get your name reserved. But registration and hosting sre two different things, and again - in no way was I speaking to the quality of service at Register.com just passing on a special offer that came through my mailbox.
