Default Should we register our branding name with .org and .info?
I made a decision on a name for my business which will be Brevos.

However, I was asked while registering its domain if I wanted to register it not only under .com but .org and .info as well for 50% off the price.

Should I go for it? I would think it would prevent others from using same name as my company.

Hope to hear from someone soon because domain names can be snatched real fast by someone else.

Thanks for your feedback,
Brenda

I have never purchased the additional suffixes for any of my domains...but many people do for the same reasons you mentioned. It's totally up to you and certainly won't hurt your business in any way if you buy them, it's just something you have to add to your budget.

Thank you Tess. Do you choose certified seal option for your domains? Or is it just something to think about in regards of our budgets?

I don't even know what certified seal is....so, probably it's not necessary

I think it's a great idea but depends on if you can afford the extra cost.
I've registered a .com.au site and also registered the .com site to forward all traffic to the au one.
what is a certified seal?

I registered "The Virtual Office Goddess.com" and "Virtual Office Goddess.com" with "the" forwarding to "virtual." I didn't worry about .org, etc. 'cuz I don't think most people think about .org, etc. yet.

I purchased the .net and .org (those were the only 2 others it would let me purchase) in addition to the .com for mine. They were only $8.95 so I figured I might as well.

If anybody types in the .net or .org it will automatically forward to my site.

I was actually talking to another VA last night and this subject came up. She used to be first on Google when searched, until an overseas company bought all the .org and .net extensions. Now they come up with her. I decided I would go today and see if the other extensions are still available for my company name. It's hard enough these days to get a good google ranking without competition with the same name in my opinion.

Just another factor of marketing that has to be considered.

Yes, the domain keywords will make a difference. If someone owns widgets and woozles.com and I buy the .net and such, when someone searches for widgets and woozles I'm going to pop up alongside this other person who has the .com site.
But does good, consistent SEO makes a dent in the search results as well.

I've also been trying to decide if I should purchase the .net and .org. Are you saying that it's not necessary, especially if I have good SEO?

Hi, I just wanted to post back to update my previous reply - since I posted here I have gone to purchase both the .org and .net of the Virtual Assistant Forums but we did so to protect the integrity of the site, and not for SEO purposes. (Having additional domains (on any extension) doesn't really have much to do with SEO unless you USE the other domains with unique, optimized content and link them up to the main domain.)

Did you end up purchasing the additional domain extensions for your own URL?

It's the practice of optimizing a website for better search engine rankings.
