Default Register.com offering 1 year free
http://www.register.com/promo/acquis...kID=EMAoFkudyW

I just got this in an email from Register.com this morning. I didn't go through all the details and know that Register.com's prices run nearly twice that of GoDaddy.com. However, what I did see on the promo page mentioned that there is no further obligation, so it might be possible to register a domain for that first year for free through Register.com and then transfer to GoDaddy.com prior to the end of the year.

Just passing along the info. I used Register.com almost 8 years ago when I registered my first domain but ended up switching to Tucows then GoDaddy - so I can't endorse their service. Maybe someone else has more recent experience with them and can enlighten us whether it might be worthwhile going for the free year?

Thanks Jeanne, I am new to the forums. Checked your link. They are still offering the 1 year free. Have you tried thier services? If so, how is it going?

Of course they are offering a free year.

My largest client just went through hell because their (register.com's) DNS servers went haywire and we were without email, website, etc for 3 days and they were sporadic for over a week. Have had nothing but problems with their service for the past year.

My advice, buy your domain and hosting through Startlogic.com. I have been with them for 3 years with no problems. The longest downtime I have ever had was about 5 minutes while they were doing an upgrade. Can't recommend them enough!

Just curious Christina, are you still using StartLogic for your website? I'm trying to decide if I should try to build my own website with Dreamweaver abd then find a host or if I should build one using something like StartLogic.

Helen,
Startlogic is a hosting company. They do have a site builder program you can use included but if you choose to design and build in Dreamweaver it's an easy upload and your site will be live.
I use them for all 6 of my sites and LOVE them. PM me with any questions or if you need help adding your site.

I tried them first and switched after 2 days. Their site is just not very user friendly. If you cancel, be sure you follow the instructions CAREFULLY and make a record of everything you did, save all emails too, for at least a year.

I canceled exactly as stated and then, when it would have been time to pay for anotheryear, they tried to charge me renewal fees. If I hadn't kept those emails they wouldn't have reversed the charge on my credit card.

Be careful.

Thanks for the advice... who did you switch to?

Oops... I noticed that it was starlogic from your earlier posts. Thanks again, I'll check them out.
