Default Linux -v- Windows - 1and1
Hi

I've just been looking at 1and1 for hosting and setting up my VA website. They have some offers on at the moment and I noticed that it was slightly cheaper if you took their Linux package rather than the Windows one. There was a section outlining the differences, but as I'm new to this, I'm still not really sure which is the better option.
Can anyone explain the pros and cons of each one for me and whether they foresee problems in using one over the other? Words of one syllable would be helpful
Thanks in advance

If your site is built in anything using .NET (e.g., dotnetnuke), you'll need Windows hosting. Wordpress, Drupal, Joomla, et al, run on Linux hosts, although I believe they *can* also run on Windows hosts.

I believe FrontPage also required a Windows host in the past, although I have been on Linux hosts who could install the needed FrontPage extensions more recently, so maybe that's no longer an issue.

Thank you for this, you've reassured me that Linux is fine for what I need.

Now I just need to get down to sorting out who I should use and get on with it.
