Default Hosting at GoDaddy Question
I'm supposed to install WP on a domain for a client, but I've never done that with GoDaddy before and I'm confused.

The client has multiple domain names sitting on godaddy. There is no hosting for the domain name I'm installing WP on, so I told my boss. Her reply was that the hosting is set up under one of the other domain names she has at godaddy.

Does this make sense? In order to install WP, I'm supposed to go to the domain name I want, then go to hosting and click on "files." But how can I do that if the hosting is on another domain name?

I don't know if you resolved the issue yet, but once you log into the GoDaddy account, under Products you should be able to see how many domains are active, no matter how many domain names are owned. For example, my boss has three domains, but only one is actively hosted. I haven't created a WP before, so I'm not sure I understand how it is done, but I think with GoDaddy any active host account can be used for WPs for different owned domains.

It sounds like a subdomain but I don't know enough about working in GoDaddy's control panel to offer an answer other than the suggestion of contacting GoDaddy's support and/or checking out the WP support system for an answer.

There are plenty of discussions on this issue, if you google it... looks like you might find an answer there as well.

Good luck with this one!

LeighVA,

When you log into Godaddy, goto the MY ACCOUNTS tab. Once there you will see the left nav bar and you want to go to the HOSTING option. Under the WEB HOSTING section it will list all the the domains that have hosting (including type of plan). There will be a launch button which you will click on.

From there on the right of the screen you should see an are that has INSTALL APPS. If you select view all apps it will take you to a screen that will show what apps can be installed and on the right there is a MY MANAGEMENT section that will show all apps installed.

You also need to make sure that the hosting plan supports Wordpress as you may have to change that as well. Godaddy has two plans Linux and Wordpress Deluxe.

Word of caution, if you are using a "premium theme" make sure that there is nothing special that you need to do to get it working correctly. Godaddy does not play nice with others.

Thank you all....Masterspieces you had the right idea. She owned many domain names and was only hosting some of them, and I was able to ADD the needed domain name to the hosting of another domain name! I had to call GoDaddy and give them her password, and they walked me through it.

I just love learning new things on the job! I just hope I can remember this for the next time it should arise. :-)

I am just getting into the whole WordPress site thing, and was wondering also about my domain name, that I've purchased from GoDaddy, but is pointing to another site right now. I am still in the beginning stages of my web page with Word Press and its definitely a learning process, if anyone out there has any tips/tricks, etc., that I can use, OR if any of you have a wordpress site that you are using as your web site, I'd LOVE to see it! Thanks

As a web designer, I've used Godaddy for years. One thing I did like about them was their control panel. its very simple and easy to use. Once you sign on and go to the control panel, its an option called "Godaddy Connections" I think. From there you can install Wordpress. It lets you select the domain you want to use during the installation.

Now the reason i don't like Godaddy for Wordpress. Its extremely slow to me. When someone goes to your site, Wordpress takes longer to load on Godaddy than its regular sites. I LOVE WORDPRESS, just not on Godaddy host. Dreamhost is one of the fastest when it comes to Wordpress. And I like Site5 which I've been using lately.
