Default Re: Help picking a web host
This is an old thread but since I just switched hosts, I thought I would share my experience. Most of the hosts I read about are loved by 50% of the people who use them, and hated by the other 50%. Trying to find a really good host that meets your needs, and oh - has the 99.9% up-time promised, is not easy.

One site I used for research is this one: http://hostjury.com/ and did discover that my host I wanted to move away from was fairly low on their review list (http://hostjury.com/reviews/). Another search I used was Twitter (http://search.twitter.com/)!

My new host is listed high on the Host Jury review chart and received quite a bit of positive commentary on Twitter.

Hope this helps!

I know I could go to a cheaper host but I need one that will handle test servers, varioius scripting and databases. I use the same company for hosting, internet accees and phone contracts. Some features are bundled so I save a bit. If I have a client that does not need all the extras, I usually go with a local company (I deal with them all the time) that is much cheaper about between 8-10.00/month for shared hosting and they can add on features they would want, ie additional e-mails etc. I've never tried the ones mentioned here but it would be interesting to know how great their customer service is and what % they are down.

I had 1and1 with another site I own and didnt like it at all.. its all very techie and over my head. I eventually went with Bravenet for hosting my VA site. Its pretty straight forward, you have to email them to get help but I only have had to do that once and they got back to me fairly quickly. I paid 99.00 for the year and 4.99 for the domain name.

I use 1and1 and haven't had any problems with them thus far.

As for my website. I used a template design from freecsstemplates.org and made all the edits in dreamweaver. All in all, I really like the results.
