Default Domain and Web Hosting
OK.... I need HELP! I am trying to figure out what to go with as far as getting one package. I need to register my domain and get a web page created. I have read a lot of the postings but I can't seem to make a decision as to WHO to go with. I am looking real hard at GODADDY and also ACENET. Can you tell me your preferences and why? Thanks...

Hi there! I may be in the minority, but I recommend that you split your package having the domain registrar with one company and the hosting with another. I use goDaddy for domain purchases because they are always having discounts and specials, you can pick up a domain name for $7. I use HostGator for my hosting and I'll let you in on something - they are having a huge sale for black Friday. I just got an affiliate newsletter and hosting packages are going to be as low as $.99 per month (regularly $4.95). So if you can wait until Friday, you can get a really good deal.

HostGator isn't a domain registrar, they use eNom or another third party for domain names and they aren't that great in my opinion. I've had to change hosts in the past and moving a website ispretty inexpensie but having to main domain names can be pretty costly if you have a few (I have about 15). Transfers are roughly $6.99 per name per year so it can add up quickly. This is why i recommend splitting them up. You can also go with Godaddy for hosting and domain name registration, but I don't like GD's control panel. HostGator uses cPanel - much more flexible.

Hope that helps!

I have been using GoDaddy for about 3 years now, and I have been very satisfied with them. Be sure to go to retailmenot.com to see what discount codes are available (for GoDaddy or any other site)! I was able to save 30% on my new business site by finding a code on there.

Hi I agree with Lisa,

I have my domains registered with CheapNames and use Hostgator for my website hosting. I use to be with 1and1.com but they started to get expensive for everything I was doing.

Yes, Hostgator on Friday is having a huge sale, so it will be worth checking them out on Friday if you are looking to get a hosting service for your website.

I have about 50 domains with GoDaddy and really love them.

My major business sites are hosted with SiteSell and my minor sites are all hosted with HostGator.

All are very solid.

GoDaddy for domain registration and Hostgator for hosting. I also have a domain on CheapNames like Renee but never bothered to move it.

Be sure to keyword for GoDaddy discount codes in Google too to register the domains at a discount. There is always something you can use to obtain a discount.
