Default Domain registration and web hosting
Hi all

I´m getting ready to prepare my webpage and I am doing research on the different places for domain registration and web hosting. I came across one that seems to have very good prices. 1&1. Do you know this company? Do you have any experience with them?

I am looking for something cheap, but don't want to compromise quality.

I will appreciate all your comments on this or similar companies.

Thanks

Hi Marta,

I've been with GoDaddy for a number of years. They're inexpensive, great tech support and I've been very happy with them so far.

I purchased a domain name through 1&1, but decided to have GoDaddy host the site.

1&1 customer service was pretty good, I was on hold for probably 2 minutes before they came to the rescue. While GoDaddy, the quickest I ever gotten answered was 7 minutes later, and when you're frustrated, that could feel like a loooong time :-) maybe I called at their busiest time.

But other than that, GoDaddy is pretty reasonable price-wise (reason why I chose to host w/ them instead of 1&1) and I saw some pretty nice site created by their easy site builder (Website Tonight).

Hope that helps.

Thanks Jean for the info. The problem I have is that I am based in Spain and I think GoDaddy is mainly for US customers. I don´t think is feasible for me if I need to call customer support from Spain to the US, whereas 1&1 are iternational, they even have a Spanish website. I'll have to investigate a little more.
I appreciate your response.
Thank you so much.
Take care!

I use Arvixe, their customer support is top notch and they provide all the bells and whistles for less than $50/year.

They have a toll free line, 24/7/365 actual customer support, live chat help and an email ticket support so getting service from them is not a problem.

I use Domains Priced Right and have been very happy with them. My son found the site for me many years ago when I decided I wanted a more business-like e-mail address. My site is hosted through them and since I also have one blogging thing I can set up through them, that's the route I'll go if I decide to do a blog. My site's never been down and the couple of times I've had an e-mail issue (I think twice in over five years) they've been very helpful and fixed the problem quickly.

I currently use GoDaddy. They are reasonably priced, offer lots of services, but their customer support/tech support is HORRIBLE. I stay with them because I am investing in several of their services, and they have a great price, just don't expect any help.

GoDaddy is very cost effective and I've had multiple domains with them. You can even get discounts for multiple years.

I use Microsoft Office Live. It's only $14.95 a year and seems sufficient enough. They do offer customer service although I haven't really needed to use it.

I went with Bluehost, the domain name was free with hosting. I prepaid a year subscription which boiled down to $5/mo. Not bad, plus they have all the tools needed to build your website, manage email, etc.
