Question Domain registration under $5
I'm helping a newbie VA get started with her website. She has an amazingly small budget to work with and is desperate to get it up and running before next Monday. Se has 3 potential clients that need to see her website to seal the deal. She did a budget and can only spring $5 to register her domain name. I did a search and found a provider for 3.99 but the feedback on them is really poor. Hope to get some responses.

Carlana, truthfully, the least expensive (yet still decent) company for registration that I am aware of is GoDaddy. It can be as little as $7 per year to register a domain through them and they give you complete access to your nameservers, etc. (which many of these cheap registration companies do not do and it is so important as a business owner to have immediate and easy access and control over these - in case she ever wants to move her site, etc.)

Just my 2cents

I use Netfirms. I paid $4.95 to register my name last fall. You're stuck with advertisements on your site though if you go with free hosting. I think that looks unprofessional. So I bought a standard hosting package. My hosting package is $5 per month with no advertisements. They have awesome tech support too.

I used Yahoo! a couple of weeks ago to register my domain name. It was $1.99 for the first year and $9.99 per year after the first. Here is the link http://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/domains/

I use GoDaddy - $4.95/month for non-advertisement supported site, free site creator (Website Tonight) w/templates. I paid $15 for a 1-year domain registration for both TheVirtualOfficeGoddess.com and VirtualOfficeGoddess.com.

I currently use Microsoft Office Live and it is a decent choice.
