Question Control Panel access

Not sure if I'm too paranoia or what, but maybe I can get some feedback.

I have a hosting account on which I host several websites, among which my son's website. In order to install a new template and manage the site from now on he would need access to the control panel. (He's been uploading via FTP, but that would change with the new template).

Is it weird that I don't feel comfortable giving him access? I don't think more than one person should have admin rights unless they both manage the same site. What do you think?

If you trust your son not to screw up the other websites, why not give him the access? Web hosting is so inexpensive, perhaps he should have his own hosting account.

Julia's point about trust is a good one - do you trust him not to muck up your other sites?

If you host for clients I would say absolutely do not share the cPanel info - too much at risk either way.

No, I don't think it's weird at all. Obviously these sites mean something to you and you're just trying to protect what you've worked hard to create. I agree with Tess though, if there are clients' sites on there, you're obligated to keep that access private.

Thanks to all for your feedback! It was very helpful.

I am currently only hosting sites for family members, so trust is not the issue.
Since my son already had his own hosting account (for another domain), I was able to convince him to move his site from my account to his own and have full control. That way I didn't have to share mine

Definitely not sharing when hosting client sites, thanks for the tip!
