Default Another 60 day hold question
I just bought my domain at godaddy.com this week, and then today transferred it to bluehost.com for hosting. It says there is a 60 day hold! Does that mean I cannot set up email and create my website for 60 days?!
Please forgive me if this is a stupid question - I am a rookie at this website stuff.

You transferred your domain name (using the transfer option?) to Bluehost and will have them host also, right? Just not sure I understand. Did Bluehost say there would be a 60 day hold?

I logged into my account at Bluehost and this is some information I found:

Quote:
Your Domain Name Registrar maintains information relating to who your Web hosting provider is for your Web site. When you change hosting companies, your Domain Name Registrar must be given the necessary information to redirect traffic to your new location. There are dozens of Domain Name Registrars and they all have different procedures to complete the process.

To expedite the transfer of your domain to Bluehost, as your preferred Web hosting provider, simply contact your Domain Name Registrar and request a technical contact change. Ensure you have the below information handy when speaking to your Domain Name Registrar support team.

(My NOTE: you will have to login to Bluehost to get this information.)

Bluehost primary and secondary DNS numbers:

Primary Server Hostname: xxxxxxxxx.COM

Primary Server IP Address: xx.xxx.xxx.xx

Secondary Server Hostname: xxxxxxxxxxx.COM

Secondary Server IP Address: xx.xx.xx.x

Once you have completed the transfer process with your registrar, it may take up to 7 business days for your new information to be fully recognized across the Internet.
And...

Quote:
Can I transfer existing domain names to Bluehost?

Solution:

Absolutely. To transfer an existing domain name just use the transfer client option when placing your order through the on-line order form. Once your account is setup, follow these steps, make sure to read all of the information before initiating the transfer.

1. Contact current registrar to unlock the domain and change the name servers to
xxx.bluehost.com and xxx.bluehost.com "Please wait 24 hours for the name servers to propagate".
2. Login in to BlueHost cpanel.
3. Click on domain manager.
4. Click on the registrar transfer icon (looks like two circling arrows).
5. Complete the registrar transfer wizard.
6. Respond appropriately to all emails sent from your current registrar and BlueHost.com.

Note: All of the emails will be sent to the administrative contact for the domain name. You will want to make sure when you are unlocking the domain name that you update all of the contact information for your domain name. Also please allow 24 hours for the domain name to unlock before you initiate the transfer process. The transfer process can take up to 10 business days make sure that your domain name will not expire in this time frame as this could create potential problems with the transfer.

Also when doing the transfer of the domain our registrar will require that you add an additional year to the domains registration which will cost 10 dollars per domain. "Unless this is your main domain, in which case BlueHost.com will pay the 10.00 fee". The transfer process can take up to 7 days so make sure that the name servers are pointing to bluehost's name server to avoid service interruption.
I removed some info and replaced with 'xxx' due to privacy issues.

So, I'm not sure where the 60 days is coming from...? Bluehost or godaddy? Godaddy might have some sort of policy as I think others have said?

I would contact Bluehost via support ticket.

When purchasing a domain name some companies (godaddy is one) do put a 60 day hold on any changes/transfers. You won't be able to complete the transfer until your 60 days are up.
You can leave your domain through godaddy yet buy your hosting through Bluehost. They are two separate entities.

Christina's right - all it means is you cannot move the registration of your website [you registered with GoDaddy so let's say you wanted to move registration to another registrar, you would have to wait sixty days to do that]

You can host and build your website anywhere you want.

As long as your domain's nameservers are pointed to the nameservers that Blue Host has assigned to your account, you will be able to get your email and website up and running without issue. If you need any help with this, feel free to PM me. I've been working for a web hosting company for the past three years, so know quite abit about this topic.
