Default What do you think of this idea?
I'm thinking of sending postcards or letters to businesses that list fictitious name statements in the newspaper. I would try to do a little research to find out what they do and tailor the postcard or letter to them. Then I would follow up the mailing with a phone call too.

Has anyone tried something like this? What do you think of the idea?

Hi Sarah,

I am confused with your question. (Could be a DUH on my part here lol) But, why would you want to cater to companies that use fictitious names? again could be a DUH here on my part, but I don't think I would want to work for a company that doesn't bother being honest from the get go. Let me know if I missed the point on this lol

Andrea

I'm not sure what 'fictitious name statements' are?!? My first mailing was to all of the new llcs that had filed w/the secty of state 3 months prior to the mailing; i culled the names from the local paper legal notices for a month. I gained 1 new client out of this so consider it VERY successful.

Anyone who doesn't use their real name (like I use Accurate Office Help instead of Sarah Last name) in their business name has to file a fictitious name statement and it needs to be run in the newspaper. These are usually small businesses / sole proprietors, and my target client.

NOW I understand! Yes, I think that is an excellent idea (having done something similar). I would give them AT LEAST 3 months to figure out that they need your help, though...

Interesting. I know that independent truck drivers have to do this. But, in my small town we don't have to advertise it like in California. Very interesting. But, then my answer would be, if you can get the name of the owner, use it. If not then use their business name. Most small business owners who are new love to get mail addressed to their "New" business name. At least I did, at first lol

I think that's a great idea! I know of one weekly business newspaper in the Philadephia/South Jersey area that publishes such information. If I remember correctly, they just list it as "registered new businesses" or something similar.

I do this and have gotten several inquiries. We have a local business times that not only lists the name, address but business type as well. I send a congratulations card and inside a note about myself and what office support can do for them as new business owners. - I do LLC's too.

I wish we had a list like that here. But, the only list in this tiny town is with the Chamber of Commerce Guess we need a few hundred thousand more people lol
