Default Postcard Marketing
I am finalizing my plans to get my business going and was wondering how many of you used postcards for marketing purposes in retaining new clients and how you would rate your success with them.

I do work 8-5, M-F outside the house, which severely limits the amount of time I can market during normal working hours. I thought about sending out postcards but was curious as to the forum's opinion before I spend the time and money on them.

Thanks in advance!
~Lori

Hi Lori,

I was thinking about doing the same, using postcards to market my business in the local area. Although I am in France and only want to work with English speaking businesses at the moment until I learn French, so I still need to work out a strategy of how to do that. Postcards a great way of getting noticed though I think, I use Moo.com for my business cards and they do postcards too.

Hi Jo,

Thank you for your reply!

I think postcards sound like a good idea. Years ago a friend of mine mentioned that postcards were less likely to get lost in the shuffle of business correspondence, especially if you chose a postcard in a color other than white, or with some color on it.

I haven't heard of Moo.com but I am going to check them out.

Good luck with your business! (And lucky you, living in France!)

I won a free consultation with an established VA in December and I asked her about marketing and brought up the idea of sending out postcards to local businesses. She told me that she tried that when she was first starting out and nothing really came from it, except a big expenditure, especially on postage.

Maybe another VA has a different experience? I was going to try postcards also but decided against it.

I have had really good luck with postcards. In fact, that is my primary marketing strategy. I focus on my target market and send them 3 different postcards, a few weeks apart, introducing them to my services, explaining the benefits of working with a VA, and then showing them how THEY can benefit from my services.

So far I've only used digital postcards, usually after meeting potential clients but I'm going to have a look at postcard marketing to see whether it's worth doing.

Thanks for the post!

I was thinking of trying postcards this year also. I was looking at vistaprint.com but will look at moo.com now also before committing. I like the 3 card approach idea.

I use the large postcards from VistaPrint, however, I go to the extra expense of placing them in envelopes and mark them "Personal & Confidential". Have landed several clients using this method.

I haven't done much marketing. My clients have come from 75% Word Of Mouth, 25% from local networking events. Thanks for posting the question - I am definetly going too look into postcards to increase my marketing as well as the 3 strategy concept when I begin. Also the price of postage stamps is less than a letter stamp...
